For serious gamers (or VR racing sim fans), it's probably your best choice. If your idea of the best VR headset is to have the best image quality in consumer VR, HP's Reverb G2 wins. You might want to wait and see what happens, unless you're ready to jump in and trust Sony now. As more games roll out that are optimized for this hardware, however, the PSVR 2 could quickly stand out from the standalone VR pack. Many of the games for this headset are ports of titles you could get on devices like the Quest 2 instead. The PSVR 2 lacks any social metaverse-type software so far and feels more like a headset designed to just launch and play VR games. It could be a landing spot for top PC VR games, but right now it already has some exclusives like Gran Turismo 7, Resident Evil Village and Horizon: Call of the Mountain. However, its HDR OLED display, graphics quality, built-in eye tracking and fantastic advanced controllers - which have the same vibrations and adaptive force-feedback triggers as the PS5 DualSense controllers - give this headset a premium feel that makes its best games perform at a different level. The PSVR 2 is expensive ($550), and needs a PlayStation 5 to even work. The Quest 2 can also connect with a PC to run more advanced apps from Steam or Meta's own app library, using a single USB-C cable or wirelessly. The Quest 2 reminds me of the Nintendo Switch for its versatility and fun, and it has a growing library of surprisingly effective fitness apps. Meta also now allows accounts to bypass Facebook logins, although a new Meta account is still required. The base model's 128GB of storage is plenty for storing dozens of games and apps, although keep in mind there's no way to add more storage after purchase. Meta will support the Quest 2 with future software right now, but it's unclear how much longer that will last. Our recommendation is to wait for the Quest 3, although that headset will cost $200 more. The $1,000 Quest Pro offers upgrades on the display, controllers, and adds features like better mixed reality and eye/face tracking, but its value for everyday VR explorers isn't worth the cost, especially with an improved Quest 3 coming later this year. It's also, considering it requires no gaming console, phone or PC, the most affordable. The Quest 2 has returned to its $300 price it originally debuted at back in 2020, and it's still currently the best and most versatile VR headset of the moment. We update this best VR headset list periodically, but note that prices are subject to change. Valve hasn't had any new VR hardware in a while, and it'll be interesting to see if anything new gets announced anytime soon.Īnd what about console gaming? The aging original PlayStation VR still exists, but you're better off getting the PSVR 2 if you have a PS5 and have the money to spend (and don't mind a tethered cable). Note that a more powerful VR system will still be largely tethered to a desktop or laptop and may require external sensors. If you're a PC gamer, a PC-connected VR headset still offers the most versatile collection of software for an immersive VR experience, and it also lets you use that headset for creative and business tools. If you want a phone-connected device, you probably should wait and see how Samsung and Google's future products shake out. Meanwhile, Samsung, Google and Qualcomm have announced a partnership for future products, suggesting a mixed-reality headset could be arriving in the next few years. The $1,100 HTC Vive XR Elite is a similar type of product that's even smaller, but doesn't have included eye tracking and software that didn't feel perfected when we tried one. And Meta's less expensive upcoming Quest 3 promises to handle mixed reality even better, with added depth sensors. Apple's technology already looks to be the best, but the $1,000 Meta Quest Pro also has color cameras and eye tracking, although its passthrough cameras are far lower-res than the Vision Pro. The Vision Pro isn't the only mixed reality VR headset out there: Expect more in this category, which blends VR with video of your surroundings using color passthrough cameras that feels almost like augmented reality. At this point, Apple's device is very much a wait-and-see product, although its ability to run all sorts of iPad apps and have multiple 3D apps open at once could make it a unique option for someone with a giant wallet. Based on an early first demo, the hardware definitely impresses, but the software remains more of an unknown. Meanwhile, Apple's newly announced (and $3,499) Vision Pro headset - a self-contained, standalone VR/AR device that Apple is positioning as a full spatial computer - isn't arriving until 2024, but it stands as the highest-priced and highest-resolution experience on the horizon.

And it’s not constant, in that you might demonstrate a lot of resilience when it comes to one challenge you’re faced with, but struggle more with being resilient when it comes to another stressor you’re up against.įlexibility, adaptability, and perseverance can help people tap into their resilience by changing certain thoughts and behaviors. Resilience theory tells us that resilience isn’t a fixed trait (you can grow your capacity to practice resilience). Resilience theory has been studied across different fields, including psychiatry, human development, and change management. Resilience theory refers to the ideas surrounding how people are affected by and adapt to challenging things like adversity, change, loss, and risk. People have to learn to cope with and work through very challenging life experiences. There is the shared reality of tragic events in the news, such as terrorist attacks, mass shootings, natural disasters, a global pandemic, and war. There are personal crises, such as illness, loss of a loved one, abuse, bullying, job loss, and financial instability. People face all kinds of adversity in life. Demonstrating resilience includes working through emotional pain and suffering. It depends on personal behaviors and skills (like self-esteem and communication skills), as well as external things (like social support and resources available to you).īeing resilient does not mean that people don’t experience stress, emotional upheaval, and suffering. Building resilience takes time, strength, and help from people around you you’ll likely experience setbacks along the way. It’s important to note that being resilient requires a skill set that you can work on and grow over time. Sood is also a member of the Everyday Health Wellness Advisory Board.) “It’s your ability to withstand adversity and bounce back and grow despite life’s downturns,” says Amit Sood, MD, the executive director of the Global Center for Resiliency and Well-Being and the creator of the Resilient Option program. It’s having the mental, emotional, and behavioral flexibility and ability to adjust to both internal and external demands, per APA. Resilience refers to both the process and the outcome of successfully adapting to difficult or challenging life experiences, according to the definition from the American Psychological Association (APA). What is resilience, why is it so important, and how do you know if you’re resilient enough? In the end, he makes her laugh by splatting himself in the face with a pie. Freddie tries finding a way to succeed in making his cousin laugh. Benson's cousin is going to a comic book festival in New Jersey while her baby daughter Stephanie visits for a few days, making Freddie uneasy because the baby always has a blank expression when she sees Freddie, and he believes she does not like him because he is not funny. Galini's assistant, Mario, re-open the pie shop. Remove from oven, discard foil and weights or beans, and return pie crust to oven. Galini's office, they accidentally knock his computer over, finding the recipes in envelopes literally stuffed inside the hard drive. Place a sheet of aluminum foil in the pie crust, extending over edges, and fill with dried beans or pie weights. Fortunately, when Sam and Freddie were fighting in Mr. Galini's computer at the pie shop during the memorial service. Carly, Sam, and Freddie hatch a plan to find the recipe in Mr. Trudy then feels bad and confesses that she never actually owned the recipe, claiming that her grandfather "kept them in his computer" and she could never find them. She agrees to give them the recipe if she can go on a date with Spencer, but she creeps him out and upsets him. Toast the meringue using a kitchen torch or broil in the oven until golden brown, keeping an eye on the meringue if broiling. Sprinkle all over with toasted coconut and serve. (This will completely seal in the filling and help prevent weeping.) Use the offset spatula to form swirls and peaks in the meringue. Use an offset spatula to completely cover the filling and meet the crust all around the edges. Remove the plastic wrap from the pie and gently mound the meringue on top of the filling. Transfer the bowl to the mixer and add the vanilla. Whisk on medium-high speed until stiff peaks form, 5 to 6 minutes. Cook, whisking constantly, until the sugar dissolves and the mixture feels very hot to the touch. Place the bowl over a saucepan of simmering water, making sure the bottom of the bowl does not touch the water. Place plastic wrap directly on the surface of the pie and refrigerate until chilled, about 2 hours, but preferably overnight.įor the meringue: Add the egg whites, sugar, cream of tartar and kosher salt to the bowl of a stand mixture fitted with the whisk attachment and whisk to combine. Spread the filling into the cooled pie crust. Cook, stirring constantly, until the custard is very thick and smooth, about 5 minutes it will be the consistency of a pudding. (If the filling has scrambled a bit, or doesn't look smooth, strain it through a fine-mesh sieve into a separate bowl before adding the coconut.) Stir in the butter until melted, then stir in the vanilla and shredded coconut. Pour the custard back into the pan and place over medium-low heat. Temper the egg yolks by slowly pouring the hot milk and cream into the egg yolks while continuing to whisk. Heat over medium heat until barely simmering. Stir together the remaining 3/4 cup milk, the half-and-half, sugar and kosher salt in a large saucepan. Continue baking until the pie shell is lightly golden brown, about 10 more minutes. Cool on a wire rack.įor the filling: Whisk together the egg yolks, 1/4 cup of the milk and the cornstarch in a medium bowl until smooth and well combined. Remove from the oven and lift the sides of the parchment to remove the beans. Bake on a baking sheet on the center rack until the dough is set, about 20 minutes. Put a piece of parchment paper or foil over the pie shell and fill with dried beans or pie weights. Freeze the pie shell for 30 minutes.Īrrange a rack in the center of the oven and preheat to 400 degrees F. Tuck the overhanging dough underneath itself to form a thick edge that is even with the rim. Transfer the dough to a 9-inch pie pan and trim the edges, leaving about an extra inch hanging over the edge. Roll the dough on a lightly-floured surface into a 12-inch circle about 1/8-inch thick. Transfer the dough to a work surface. Form the dough into a disk, wrap with plastic wrap and refrigerate until thoroughly chilled, at least 1 hour. Add the butter and pulse until it resembles yellow cornmeal mixed with bean-size bits of butter, about 10 times. Add the egg and pulse 4 to 5 times until the dough forms a ball. (If the dough is very dry add up to a tablespoon more of cold water.) For the pie crust: Pulse the flour, sugar, and salt in a food processor fitted with the metal blade until combined. The simplest ground quivers are usually just stakes in the ground with a hoop attached at the top so that the arrows can’t fall over.įancier ground quivers hold the arrows with a more complicated and often more elegant design, sometimes even having a dispenser system to hold the arrows out to the archer so that they don’t have to bend down to reach them. These kinds of quivers can be designed either very simply or with great precision. In the past, they were used by combat archers, who typically remained in one spot, shooting at the enemy from behind their army’s defensive line. Ground quivers are often seen at archery ranges being used by target shooters, who don’t need to move positions. You will most often see bowhunters using bow quivers. Rather than containing the bow within a cylindrical holder, bow quivers usually store arrows by enveloping either end with a stiff foam, leaving the main shaft exposed. These kinds of quivers attach to one side of the bow’s frame, so they are usually very light so as not to disrupt the balance of the bow too much.īow quivers usually look very different from the traditional Archer-bound quiver. This is most common with compound bows, which are usually designed to be used with several accessories. Recently, the majority of quivers have moved from being on the archer’s body to being on the body of the bow itself. The use of back quivers has been mostly traced back to Native American and African archers, though some modern archers do prefer this kind of quiver. In reality, back quivers were not as popular as some movies set in medieval times make it seem, probably because they were less easily accessed than hip quivers. Today, hip quivers are still popular, especially among traditional archers with longbows or recurve bows.īoth Hawkeye and Legolas are pictured using back quivers as opposed to hip quivers because let’s be honest, they just look cooler. Realistically, you could put them anywhere on the belt, but these were the most common places for the quiver to be attached. Typically, these crudely-made containers were hung from a belt around the archer’s waist, providing quick access to the arrows.ĭepending on the archer’s preference, belt quivers could be positioned to be at the side of the dominant hand or at the archer’s back. One of the first places the quiver came to reside was the archer’s body itself.ĭespite its limited representation in modern media, the belt quiver was the most common in the first days of the quiver. The quiver can be designed to rest in one of a few different places. Some of those factors include position, material, and arrow count, which we’ll explore individually. There are many factors that go into determining what a quiver will look and feel like. The different kinds of quivers have increased over time, making the quick identification of one a more complicated task. If you’re not a fan of medieval fantasy, you may have seen a quiver on Hawkeye’s back in The Avengers or one of the following movies in the Marvel franchise.īoth Orlando Bloom and Jeremy Renner were outfitted with quivers to complete their master archer ensemble, and even though they may have looked very different, they both achieved the main goal of a quiver, which is to store arrows in a secure place until the archer is ready to use them. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings trilogy, can be seen using his quiver throughout the Lord of the Rings and even The Hobbit movies. Though you may not have known what it was at the time, you’ve probably seen quivers in some of your favorite blockbuster movies.įor example, Legolas, an elf of the Woodland Realm and one of the main characters in J.R.R. The quiver increases convenience as well as making transportation easier. In order to avoid broken or lost arrows, archers of centuries past invented the quiver to hold their ammunition. The quiver is not a complicated device, but it does perform a very important function.Īrchery would be much more difficult while trying to hold a dozen arrows in one hand, and laying the arrows on the ground is just not a good idea. Most quivers hold between three and twenty arrows.įor most archers, the quiver is one of the most important accessories in their gear bag, and it’s been around since the beginning of archery. Both bowhunters and target archers often use this accessory, which can be stored on the archer’s body, on his bow, or on the ground. But over the years, archers and intelligent minds have come together to improve the sport of archery by developing helpful accessories like the quiver.Īn archery quiver is a cylindrical container designed to hold an archer’s arrows. Technically, all you need to practice archery is a bow and a few arrows. Make sure the exhaust is not hot before preforming the installation. Sold by Kipalm and ships from Amazon Fulfillment.
